There is a lack of public awareness of the implications of behavioral health on chronic diseases and vice-versa. The presentation will highlight why each of these facets of health cannot be ignored to promote one’s overall health and quality of life. There is a vital link between mental health and chronic diseases. Having one condition can be a risk factor for another. However, early interventions to stop one disease initiation process can prevent many other negative health outcomes. Through this presentation, the audience will be able to: 1. Understand the role of mental health on chronic diseases development and vice versa. 2. Learn ways of integrating health promotion programs that address both chronic diseases and mental illnesses. 3. Understand how to adopt a systems approach to address the co-occurrence of these conditions.
